Who are we?
About Us
Newquay Christian Centre’s Senior Pastor Mike Robins and his wife originally hail form Bournmouth in Dorset, UK. Prior to being converted at the age of 24, Mike was a skilled engineer working in a management capacity producing aviation components. He entered full ministry in 1991, and the following year was clearly called to Newquay. Mike moved with Shelagh and three of their four children to a relatively small but hugely faithful and friendly church that has grown into the lively active church that stands today.
A key turning point in Mike’s ministry occurred during 1994 when God radically challenged his pre-conceived ideas of what church should be. Convinced that the church should ‘belong’ to God, and that the only dream that really mattered was the dream of Jesus; neither he, his ministry, nor the church , were ever to be the same again. He is a visionary with an unquenchable desire to see a large, dynamic and charismatic church in the county of Cornwall that not only has influence locally but is also an encouragement and resource for the Kingdom of God across the UK and throughout the world. Both Mike and Shelagh (who herself holds a ‘Licence to Minister’ credential within Elim and heads up the church’s ‘Celebrate Recovery’ program) are often invited to minister both in the UK and abroad, with request coming as far a Australia and India, as well as other regions around the worlds.
Mike is fueled by one basic desire; to see the church of God released into her full potential. His passion is to see every person discover their place in Christ and to fulfill the purpose for which God has created them. This is reflected in a passionate and challenging preaching style that is geared to everyday life, and that motivates and encourages the entire family. Mike was ordained within Elim in 1995 and has served in various leadership positions in both Elim and other organizations.
What are we doing
We are currently taking a sabbatical to visit the Southern Hemisphere and minister, attend conferences, relax and take in some spiritual nourishment.
God Bless

Hello precious friends. Hope you are enjoying the start of your sabbatical. I was thinking about you when I woke up this morning realising that you would have preached already!! How did it go? All’s well. I had some phone conversations with Karen, Kerry and Gemma. (How do I get a private communique through to you? Shelagh wanted to know my drs results from the bloods taken)
Pearl conference – only 10 seats left now. I woke up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night after a nightmare……I walked into the church and the stage wasn’t draped and was pitch black! I introduced Charlynne to everyone and the next moment someone said: “Oh look, Elvis is in the house” and the next moment he started singing. I am trying to restore order and tell Elvis to go away while Charlynne stares at me and said: I should have known this would not be organised for God’s glory!” I was so pleased to wake up! OK! STOP LAUGHING! It isn’t THAT funny. Love you!

Hi Mari, Great to hear from you. i am really missing my friends and kids and am feeling very cut off as i can’t get or send e-mails from my address and i can’t phone cos of the cost. i will try to e-mail you from Mike’ address in a minute. Could you reply a.s.a.p. because we are not sure if they are getting through.
Anyway, in case the e-mail doesn’t work i want you to know that i am thinking of you and praying for you and your health and for the conference. Conference starts here tonight. People here are very friendly. We have been thoroughly spoilt by our hosts. Mike’s preaching went well and we enjoyed our visits to the 2 churches.
Talk to you more in the e-mail. Love from Shelagh & Mike xx

Hi you 3
I’m really looking forward to meeting Max, he looks quite an impressive charcter!! Is he going to be joining the staff team at NCC or is he strictly someone who accompanies Shelagh??
Great to hear from you guys, we are all missing and praying for you, we are just about to go into the 9am service with John Smyth.
Have a great day!

Hi Mike and Shelagh,
Am loving tapping in to your “blog”
We are missing you, but it’s worth it to hear the happiness in your email voices and see you looking so relaxed. We’re all fine here. One of the high lights of this week was all of us waving to Doug Knight as he flew over NCC in a light aircraft just after the 2nd service! Only at NCC could such a bonkers thing be seen as a normal Sunday occurrence! Love it.
Watch out for the blue ringed octopus, they’re deadly as well as everything else in Oz…even the cuddly Koalas can kill you if they drop out of the trees in a eucalyptus induced stupour and land on yer ‘ead!
Much love to Max, tell him I’ve put him on the H20 Sunday rota with the 3-6’s in November as he suggested.
Much much love
